PASA's Soil Health Summer Conference | NESAWG

maximios March 29, 2025

August 6, 2015 9:00am to August 7, 2015 5:00pm

This two-day in-depth learning experience will dive into practical and effective practices to build and maintain soil health on your farm. Lead speaker Gary Zimmer of Midwestern BioAg brings extensive knowledge on biological farming, and will share practical methods to work with nature – feeding soil life, balancing soil minerals and tilling soils with a purpose. Gary will be joined by Bryan O’Hara of Tobacco Road Farm, a no-till vegetable farm in Connecticut, Charlie White of Penn State University and Vail Dixon of Simple Soil Solutions, each of whom will provide classroom style instruction on their areas of expertise.

Part field day, part conference, the Summer Conference offers a combination of classroom style presentations and on-farm experiences led by our team of speakers.  Attendees will gain a deep insight into soil function and management strategies for any farm. During farm visits, all participants will explore building soils and pasture health through rotational grazing on an organic dairy with Gary Zimmer, and will choose between two sites, one that examines reducing or eliminating tillage in vegetable and berry systems with Bryan O’Hara and another that explores using cover crops and no-till methods to build soil and control weeds in feed/forage and grain production systems with Penn State University researchers at two research plots – “Finding the Right Mix: Multifunctional Cover Crop Cocktails for Organic Systems Research Project” and “ Reduced-Tillage Organic System Experiments”.

Registration for the conference is required.
