It Takes a Region Conference – 2016 | NESAWG
Go back to Youth at the Conference Page
For the first time in NESAWG history, we will have a Youth Track at the conference, with sessions planned by youth, for youth, about the work youth do to make a more sustainable and just food system.
We are now accepting proposals for Youth Track sessions. Special consideration will be given to proposals written, in whole or in collaboration with, youth presenters. We are looking for proposals from youth that cover topics relevant to sustainable farm and food systems in the 12-State NESAWG Region.
All Youth Track Sessions will be on Friday, November 10, 2016.
We are looking for proposals that:
- Focus on farm and food systems issues in the NESAWG 12-State Region.
- Inspire, educate and inform the work of youth (ages 14 to 24) working in the sustainable farm and food systems movement in the Northeast.
- Are participatory and interactive, with two-way communication between participants and presenters and/or engaging activities.
- Are practical. Offer useful tools and ideas that participants can use in their states, cities, communities, and organizations, including innovative strategies, exemplary models, powerful narratives, and accessible artistic and cultural expressions.
- Focus on systemic solutions and emphasize systems and cultural change.
- Connect to active issue campaigns, projects, grassroots community organizing, current struggles and/or movement-building efforts.
- Incorporate race and equity issues in food systems work.
- Address our Race and Equity Prompts.
We are seeking a range of proposals and presenters covering the breadth of diversity in our region, including issues, sector, geographic, race/ethnicity, and age. Workshops can have varied formats including panels, presentations, discussion, interactive activities or skill-building sessions.
Submissions are due by Sept 21, 2016 at midnight. Proposal submitters will be notified in mid-October.
